Sign Up for Race for Life Jersey Sunday 14th May 2023

Cancer Research is inviting Jersey women and men to sign up to Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life. This event is open to all! Men, women and children!

Cancer is the main cause of death in Jersey, accounting for 34% of all deaths on the Island – which is why the charity is urging women of all shapes, sizes, ages and abilities to enter Race for Life 5k or 10k events at Les Jardins de la Mer on Sunday 22nd May 2022.

By signing up to Race for Life, women in Jersey will make a real difference in the fight against cancer. Money raised will help Cancer Research UK scientists find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease, helping save more lives.

Funds raised from the event will benefit local residents by funding Cancer Research UK’s Research Centre based at Southampton Hospital.
Many patients from Jersey are treated in Southampton, it is considered the local hospital for Cancer treatment, as well as the closest hospital for clinical trials as there is no research environment in Jersey. By signing up for Race For Life, Islanders will be helping to raise money for life-saving cancer research that will help to beat cancer sooner.

To enter Race for Life today visit raceforlife.org or call 0300 123 0770.

Relay for Life 2023

Relay For Life is a year-round team fundraising challenge bringing communities together to beat cancer. Friends, family or workmates start or join a Relay fundraising team. Fundraise throughout the year, then join a 24-hour celebration showing that together we are stronger than cancer. Cancer never sleeps so neither do we. Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back. Relay For Life is entirely free to enter and truly is an event for the entire family.

Organised by a dedicated volunteer committee, each Relay For Life event is a 24-hour community celebration. Teams, cancer survivors, their carers and volunteers come together to take part in a 24-hour Relay For Life event to show that together, we’re stronger than cancer.

    • •   Our VIP guests are our survivors of cancer. Each event begins with their lap of honour.

    • •   We all take it in turns to walk laps of a track, all day and all night to show cancer never sleeps.

    • •   A Candle of Hope ceremony sees the darkness lit up in memory of those we’ve lost.

    • •   Talks about CRUK’s ground-breaking science and cancer awareness health messaging, gives us real hope for the future.

    • •   Music from local performers gets us moving. Stalls and games are fun for all the family.

  • •   A closing ceremony celebrates our achievements, and inspires us all to continue the fight.

Race for Life

Race for Life: This is Beating Cancer.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is a series of events raising money for research into all 200 types of cancer. This is no ordinary 5k or 10km race, this is thousands of people across the UK and Channel Islands uniting with one purpose, to come together, to raise money, to beat cancer. People of all ages, abilities and backgrounds take part in the Race for Life, and are invited to either walk, jog or run the course.

CRUK Jersey Golf Day

The CRUK Jersey Golf Day will be on 22nd July 2022

The Cancer Research UK Jersey Golf day is held annually at the Royal Jersey Golf Club. Corporate and private teams are welcome, participants are invited to enter teams of four to play 18 holes in a Stableford format.

The event is generously sponsored by Brooks Macdonald so that all money raised from the event goes towards life-saving research work. Additional sponsorship and branding opportunities are available around the course as a way for local businesses to advertise and support the charity. The entrance fee is £700 per team which includes green fees, bacon rolls and coffee at the start, refreshments on the course and lunch in the clubhouse.  Since its establishment the golf day has raised in excess of £250k for Cancer Research UK, it is a well-supported and longstanding event in the golfing calendar.

To make enquiries or enter a team please contact by email adrienne.hodgson@brooksmacdonald.com or telephone 01534715517.

Support Us

Each year, many volunteers in Jersey help us through a variety of ways to raise money for Cancer Research. We greatly appreciate the valuable contribution from every single person, helping us to beat cancer and save lives.

Below are some of the ways in which you can get involved in helping us beat cancer:

Help us to raise money by joining us in an event organised by Cancer Research UK. Every year we host an array of fantastic events including Run4Men, Race for Life and Relay for Life. There have also been a number of Jersey entrants who have run and raised sponsorship for Cancer Research in the London Marathon.
Every year, hundreds of people in Jersey unite to help raise money for Cancer Research UK. We’re grateful to every single person, because we know that every pound raised plays an important part of beating cancer sooner.
We offer an array of charity volunteer roles, giving you the chance to support our pioneering, life-saving research in many ways. Volunteer in our local charity shop, volunteer at an event and help fundraise in your community.
You can buy a range of products from the Cancer Research UK online shop or from your local shop on 56 Halkett Place.

Where Your Donations Go

Money raised throughout Jersey goes towards the Southampton Cancer Research Centre.

The strong relationship between Jersey and Southamption is crucial for the many patients from Jersey who are treated in Southampton; it is considered the local hospital for Cancer treatment, as well as the closest hospital for clinical trials as there is no research environment in Jersey.

The local committee maintains a close working relationship with the team at Southampton, ensuring that funds raised in Jersey are allocated with a tangible benefit to Islanders.

The Southampton Cancer Research Centre has more than 150 scientists, doctors and nurses are working faster and smarter to beat cancer sooner.

Thanks to dramatic improvements in prevention, diagnosis and treatment, survival rates for people with cancer have doubled over the last 40 years.

Meet the survivors:

Xano

Xano was five when he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. This little boy received immunotherapy over a five month period and is now in complete remission. Xano is loving life and school with a positive attitude! We can save many more lives with Southampton’s new Centre for Cancer immunology, but we need your help!

Cancer Research UK carries out out word-class research into the biology and causes of cancer. Cancer is a highly complex disease that is still only partly understood. Only through a better understanding of the disease will the improved treatments, diagnostics and prevention strategies of the future be developed.
Cancer Research UK develops effective treatments and improves the quality of life for cancer patients – Research will be carried out to accelerate cancer cure rates, aiming to translate our understanding of the disease into effective treatments. Research will also be directed at improving the quality of life of those patients whose disease cannot be cured.
Cancer Research UK aims to reduce the number of people getting cancer – Research is carried out into the influence of lifestyle, individual risk, environment and interventions such as vaccination on cancer, and into how people can change their behaviours to reduce their risk of the disease. We will make the wider public aware of cancer risk factors.
As a leading international research organisation, Cancer Research UK provides authoritative cancer information to the public and promotes the best treatments and prevention strategies to governments, commercial organisations, those responsible for cancer care and the media.
