Over Fifty Years of Cancer Research in Jersey: Cancer Research UK Jersey traces its roots back to July 1953 when the then Bailiff of Jersey, Lord Coutanche, initiated the establishment of a Jersey Committee of what was then known as the British Empire Campaign for Cancer Research. During this intervening 50 years, the Jersey Committee has actively promoted fundraising events in aid of Cancer Research as well as other initiatives to promote an understanding of the causes of cancer and ways to reduce risks of suffering from cancer. During that 50 year period, the Jersey Committee has helped to raise over £6 million to go towards funding cancer research – you can find out more about how this money has been spent in the “Where donations go?” section. Information about past members of the Jersey Committee can be found on a separate page.
